V-Lock Hard Top Mount Instructions
Rocket Shade™ V-Lock Hardtop Cap Mount Installation Guide
For solid attachment to top-bolted hardtop surfaces
(Ideal “no-drilling” solution for T-Tops and Runabouts)
Overview
The V-Lock Hardtop Mount provides a simple, secure attachment for extending Rocket Shade coverage over the bow or cockpit area on boats with cap-attached hardtops. Follow these steps for accurate placement and long-term durability.
Required Tools
- Tape measure and long straight edge
- Torx driver (included with Rocket Shade system)
- Allen wrench or socket set
Parts Provided by Customer
- Stainless-steel bolts of proper length (only if existing hardware must be replaced)
Installation Steps
1. Select Mounting Locations
· Choose positions that provide the best shade coverage — typically on either side of the hardtop, above the bow or cockpit area.
2. Determine V-Lock Separation and Angle
- The Rocket Shade mounting tube connects to two V-Locks attached at existing hardtop mounting points.
- Measure the center-to-center distance between these mounting caps and ensure that the cantilever tube will extend at least 8 inches beyond the hardtop edge for adequate overhang.
- Using a long straight edge, span the surface between the two mounting points to assess hardtop flatness.
- Slight curvature is acceptable — this system accommodates up to 1.5° of surface curve.
- If curvature exceeds this tolerance, contact Rocket Shade support for optional custom-angled mounts.
3. Attach the V-Lock Bases
- Reuse the existing bolts. If this does not work, replace them with marine-grade stainless bolts of suitable pattern and length.
- Install the provided rubber isolators between the mount base and the hardtop surface to protect the finish and damp vibration.
- Each pair should include one V-Lock base with integrated spring pin for secure locking and easy release.
- Tighten bolts evenly with an allen wrench or socket set — do not overtighten.
4. Configure and Test the Mounting Tube
- On the 48-inch aluminum mounting tube, position and fasten the V-Lock inserts to match the installed base spacing.
- Test the lock-in and removal function for smooth engagement.
- Tighten all Torx screws securely once alignment is confirmed.
- Attach the mounting tube to the cantilever assembly, replacing any rod-holder insert if previously used.
5. Final Adjustment
· Mount the Rocket Shade cantilever and verify locking engagement. Adjust the tilt and orientation for best shade coverage.
Important Notes
- Always verify alignment before forcing attachment — misaligned V-Locks may hinder cantilever system installations.
- Check mounts periodically for tightness, especially after long travel or exposure to vibration.
